I believe in experiential teaching following the first people’s principles of learning. I believe students are social, and schools should encompass this rather than frown upon talking and children’s natural urges to socialize. I believe in inquiry-based learning and group work to help build a strong community within the classroom. I received a Montessori education, and these practices are rooted in how I believe children should learn. Providing manipulatives and opportunities for students to physically demonstrate teachings will foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Overall, I think students’ instincts to have fun and play should be utilized in learning, and we can use play-based learning approaches to most topics and subjects to make learning more fun and self-guided. As an Indigenous Women, I strongly believe in recognizing the importance of Indigenous ways of learning and being and including the history of our country.
