This piece was inspired by my love for regency era fashion and opulence. It is meant to be detailed and elegant while vastly formal and extra showcasing the young ladies wealth and class. This piece while made of a girl my age is vastly different from my personal experience. It showcases my fascination of the grander lifestyle one of extravagance and boasting. While I believe there re better things to spend money on it does not make me any less enthralled with the display of wealth and finer things. I chose someone of my age, relative stature, and form to feel more connected to this piece like my past life was one of luxury. The title of this piece is Diamond of the Season to represent the connection and inspiration from the tv show Bridgerton.

The choice of wire was not mine and did present significant difficulties however I am happy with how it turned out. As for material, and embellishments I spent hours in the fabric shop. I touched, and looked at every fabric the shop had to offer thinking of how it would lay, the flow, and the feel. I wanted to use fabric that represented my vision and I didn’t think I could get the look of opulence using cheap fabrics. I wanted layers of fabric to create structure, and quality. I chose blue as it is a colour of innocence and during this time period that was something extremely valuable. I also chose a simple pattern as the structure, and fabric spoke for itself and the embellishments added the details. I had never worked with wire however fabric is something I am relatively confident in using. I used to sew although everything was always from my mind and not necessarily from a pattern which resulted in unique pieces to say the least. I have remade and altered plenty of garments adding my own flair to them.

I really like the piece I created there was definitely ups and downs throughout the creative process but I think it is strong. I believe I did a great job with the structure of the skirt and creating that exaggerated and regal look. I also enjoyed the hair that I added it was playful and showcased a different wire technique of coiling. The work was definitely challenging and ended with many cuts from the wire, sore finger tips from bending, and hot glue gun burns from attaching some of the fabric together. While it isn’t something I would want to do again I do think I was able to go out on a bang and push through the challenges I experienced. My end result is not exactly what I had intended I wanted to only use one piece of wire which turned out to be much too frustrating, I also wanted to create a slightly more accurate sculpture however I am proud of what I created. I think even though the piece changed it turned out better than what I envisioned as it showed my tenacity and ability to push through hard things.
